ARMED police officers carried out a search of a property in Banbury after reports of a man there with a “bladed article”.
At around 8.30pm yesterday, Thames Valley Police were called to West Street, where the man was believed to have entered a property.
The property was searched. No-one was found inside the house but the “bladed article” was recovered.
Armed officers were deployed to deal with the incident and were stood down by 10pm.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence.
Deputy local police area commander for Cherwell and West Oxfordshire, Chief Inspector Kath Lowe, said: “The incident was safely and quickly resolved.
“There is no suggestion that anybody was held against their will and there is no ongoing risk to the community.”
The man has been bailed until Tuesday, August 13.
