TWO Oxford city councillors took the plunge last night to raise money to provide clean water for people in one of the city’s twin towns.
John Tanner, left, joined Mark Lygo in a sponsored swim at Hinksey outdoor pool.
They were pushed into the pool by Oxford’s Lord Mayor Dee Sinclair.
They were swimming for the Oxford Leon Association, which is currently raising funds for a water pipeline in the Nicaraguan town Leon, where supplies are contaminated with arsenic.
The pipeline project will be managed by a Leon-based charity with the World Health Organisation and other organisations in the country.
The pool, run by Fusion, invited the public to come and swim as many lengths as they liked in aid of the project between 4.30pm and 7.30pm yesterday.
