A DANGEROUS paedophile who groomed and abused a teenage girl from Oxfordshire has been jailed for nine years.

Bradley James, from Washington, near Gateshead, had been released on licence after being jailed for earlier child sex offences when he contacted the 14-year-old girl in December last year.

The 35-year-old started a five-month relationship which resulted in them having sex, and him taking indecent images of her, in the Travelodge hotel at the Pear Tree interchange, north of Oxford.

James has previously served two prison sentences, one of eight months and one of two years, for making and distributing indecent images of children.

He was released on a five-year extended licence on July 23, 2010, and first contacted his young victim on the Internet in August last year.

James admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child, one charge of meeting a child after sexual grooming and three breaches of a sexual offences prevention order. He asked for two counts of possessing indecent images of children to be taken into consideration.

Passing sentence at Oxford Crown Court yesterday, Judge Mary Jane Mowat said James was a dangerous offender and sentenced him to nine years in custody, of which he will serve two thirds, and an extended five-year licence period.

She added: “The consequences have been devastating for that girl.”
