A woman was sexually assaulted in Stanford in the Vale.

The assault is believed to have taken place around three weeks ago on a grassy area behind Hunter’s Field.

The allegation was made to police this week.

An appeal for witnesses who saw a suspicious man hanging around the area or a distressed young female running along Hunter’s Field has been made.

The man is described as white, in his early twenties and of medium build and height, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a blue hooded top.

Investigating officer Det Insp Steve Raffield said: “We would like to speak to anyone who saw any man hanging around the area in the week between Monday, May 20 and Monday, June 3.

“We are doing everything to catch this offender and want to reassure the community that incidents like this are extremely rare.”
