A VILLAGE school is celebrating opening a new garden two years after the small primary was threatened with closure.
The Parents and Friends Association raised about £3,000 to fund the garden, which contains a pond and a sensory garden, at Culham Parochial School, near Abingdon.
And they hope to hit a target of about £6,000 to fund an outdoor classroom, which would take the form of a wooden amphitheatre, and extend the sensory garden.
The first part of the garden was officially opened last Saturday.
Pupil Zoe Dalby, aged five, said: “I like feeding the fish.”
Luca Helmsley, six, said: “I like gardening and planting.”
Two years ago the school had just 24 pupils, a budget deficit of £50,000 and no permanent headteacher. It now has 47 pupils, with the figure due to rise to 56 by September.
