GAVIN and Stacey star Joanna Page brought her baby girl along to Wallingford Baby Café’s opening ceremony.

Ms Page recently moved near Wallingford with husband James Thornton and their four-month-old daughter Eva.

The actress, who played Stacey Shipman in the popular BBC comedy, has joined children’s health advisor Jenny Tschiesche to support mums in the town who breastfeed their babies.

The baby café was set up in November at Ridgeway Community Church, with support from the town’s children’s centre, and was declared officially open yesterday. Ms Page attended the café’s launch as part of National Breastfeeding Month.

Mums laughed as the 34-year-old actress cut the ribbon and said: “To breasts and babies everywhere.”

Mum-of-one and baby café volunteer Camilla Preece, 30, lives in Crowmarsh Gifford.

She said: “About 50 mums and their babies came along for the opening and it was wonderful to have this support from Joanna. “Local businesses donated flowers and cakes for the launch and the mums were very excited to see Joanna come and join us because she is so well known.”

The café is staffed by nine volunteer mums, all experienced breastfeeders who have been trained by the National Childbirth Trust to help others.

Open every Thursday from noon to 2pm, the baby café costs about £5,000 a year to run.
