A WOMAN who lost her sister to bowel cancer at the age of 36 is to cycle through Europe from her loved one’s graveside.

Daniella Gatt will set off on July 10 from the Kidlington cemetery where her sister Chantelle is buried.

She and boyfriend Nicky Goy will ride 1,700 miles to Zebbug, Malta, the home village of Miss Gatt’s father Tony.

Mr Gatt, who has lived in Kidlington for 20 years, said: “I am proud of them.”

The warehouse worker, who lives in Mead Way, visits his daughter’s grave every night and said he was touched by the ride, which is raising money for the hospice where she died.

Mr Gatt, 61, had a tattoo of his late daughter to mark the first anniversary of her death in May.

The mother-of-two died just two weeks after diagnosis at St John’s, a Sue Ryder hospice in Bedford, where she lived with her husband and two children.

Her sister, a physiotherapist who lives in Nottinghamshire, said: “The hospice were absolutely amazing in the care they provided.”

Miss Gatt, 30, already cycles 25 miles a day and is putting in extra training for the ride to Dover and across France, Switzerland and Italy, reaching Malta on July 27.

Miss Gatt said: “Chantelle is my driving force. If she could go through what she went through then I can ride a bike.”

So far, nearly £2,900 has been raised for the appeal.
