A GROUP of fundraisers, whose membership has sometimes been as low as two, has just raised its millionth pound for Cancer Research UK.

The Churchill Partners formed in 1993 and has spent the last two decades raising funds for research and treatment at Oxford’s Churchill Hospital.

Events have included the Oxford Walk and Tea and the annual Cycle4Life Bike run, which has alone raised £100,000.

Aileen Rogers, 80, and from Woodstock, is the longest serving member of the Churchill Partners, having joined the group in 1995 after her husband David died of cancer.

The former teacher at Witney's Henry Box School said: “I joined the Churchill Partnership because I wanted to give something back for the care which had been given to my husband.

“The committee only has seven members at the moment. And sometimes we have had as few as two. But members have always been dedicated and our fundraisers have included cancer patients who wanted to give something back for the help they received. Many inspirational people have since died from cancer.”

Mrs Rogers revealed the group made a pledge to reach the million pound mark after the death of their former treasurer, Diane Taylor.
