RECENTLY, Sir Tony Baldry was shown puting his full weight behind the first spade in the ground, marking the start of construction for the new Bicester Community Hospital.
By coincidence, I had read an edition of a local Bicester newspaper, dated April 1998, a week or so ago.
The lead story was of Bicester GPs, pushing for a new hospital of 30 beds, based on the town’s 24,000 population of the time.
Lending his support, the then Tony Baldry said: “Bicester needs more beds because it is one of the fastest growing towns in Britain.”
So everybody involved must be proud of the achievement of the new 12-bed hospital, replacing the turn-of-the-last-century old 12-bed hospital, with 14 new houses to complete the project.
The situation is confounded to a greater extent that the town’s population has reached 35,000 and is expected to increase to nearly 50,000 in the near future.
