TODDLERS gathered round for a special poetry session at Oxford’s Story Museum yesterday.

Wallingford-based poet James Carter was reading some action rhymes from his now book Hey, Little Bug. His poems are about things as varied as pirates, dinosaurs and puddles.

He said: “The children who came seemed to have a very good time.

“More than anything else they learn it is fun to play with language but also it is very educational because you are giving them an understanding of language.”

An action rhyme involves making a rhyme while putting a related physical action to it.

Two-year-old Arthur Hammond and mum Emily Cleaver joined in the fun.

Mr Carter is doing other poetry sessions at the Story Museum in Pembroke Street. For more information, visit storymuseum.org.uk
