PUPILS turned the clock back 100 years as they celebrated the centenary of their school. Youngsters from West Oxford Community Primary School in Ferry Hinksey Road dressed in Edwardian-style clothes and took part in lessons from the era yesterday.

Pictured, from left, are pupils Esa Hussain, five, Imogen Rail, 10, and Charlie Urwin, seven, with assistant headteacher Nick Barwick.

The school, which was built in 1913, is celebrating the milestone this year.

Headteacher Clare Bladen said: “The school was built in 1913 so we decided to have an Edwardian day.

“The majority of children have come dressed as Edwardian children.

“All the classes took part in Edwardian lessons such as cross-stitching and handwriting and geography about the British Empire.”

Year five pupil Imogen said: “My first lesson was cross-stitching and that was good. “We have just done some art and the teachers are strict.

“It is really fun.” Year one pupil Esa said: “I liked doing the art.”

Charlie, from year two, added: “I enjoyed marching.”
