RECYCLING is being celebrated across the county this week with news that 60 per cent of the county’s waste is being recycled.

The figure is the same as in June last year, but higher than the previous year, when 55.12 per cent of waste was recycled. It represents a significant jump from 27 per cent 10 years ago.

As part of the week, Oxfordshire Waste Partnership will hold events to show people what happens to their waste once it has been collected. The partnership will be at the Oxford Cricket Festival in Marsh Park, Cowley, from 3pm to 8pm today and at Sainsbury’s Heyford Hill store tomorrow from noon to 4pm. On Friday the roadshow will be at the Westgate Centre from noon to 4pm.

Partnership chairman David Dodds said: “We should all be very proud of the recycling rates we have achieved.

“However, it is important to make sure that as much as possible is recycled and recycle week is a great opportunity to remind us of that.”
