THREE Oxford University academics have reportedly arranged to be cryogenically frozen after death.

Prof Nick Bostrom, founding director of the Future Humanity Institute at the university, and research fellows Dr Anders Sandberg and Dr Stuart Armstrong, have all made arrangements with American companies to have all or part of their bodies frozen after they die, in the hope technology may have advanced enough to revive them in future years.

According to a Sunday newspaper, Prof Bostrom and Dr Sandberg plan to have their heads frozen by Arizona-based company Alcor, while Dr Armstrong will have his entire body frozen with the Cryonics Institute in Michigan.

The trio are understood to have taken out life insurance policies to pay for the procedure.

Prof Bostrom, Dr Sandberg and Dr Armstrong are the lead researchers at the Future of Humanity Institute, FHI, which is part of the Oxford Martin School.
