AN OXFORD woman is in the running to be the new presenter of children’s television show Blue Peter.

Lindsey Russell, 22, from Oxford, is one of 10 people shortlisted for the post out of 20,000 applicants.

Ms Russell, who is studying for a degree at Bristol University, will be put through a series of challenges to test her presenting skills in spin-off CBBC show Blue Peter — You Decide! in the next few weeks, with judges including Myleene Klass and Eamonn Holmes.

Miss Russell said her experience included teaching French children, presenting theatre workshops for the National Youth Theatre and performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

She said: “I think I’m bubbly, fun to be around. If the CBBC viewers chose me as the new presenter of Blue Peter, it would be life-changing.”

Her competition includes a former rowing coach, a charity fundraiser, an online television host and a primary school teacher.

The final decision on who will be the 36th host of the world’s longest running children’s television show will be made by viewers.
