THE four-year-old fatally injured at Bicester Village was struck by a mirror, a spokesman for Hugo Boss said tonight.

The boy was hurt in the store at the Pingle Drive complex on Tuesday night and died this morning, police said today.

An off-duty doctor tended to him before paramedics arrived.

Detective Inspector Steve Duffy said it was believed the boy's serious head injury was caused by a piece of 'shop fitting' falling on him.

Now Hugo Boss has confirmed it was a mirror. Spokesman Alistair McCallum said: “At around 8.30pm on Tuesday, a four-year-old child was injured by a mirror falling on him.

“The child suffered serious injuries and was treated at hospital where this morning he passed away.

“Everyone at Hugo Boss is devastated by this tragic accident and we would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family. All of our thoughts are with them at this time.

“Hugo Boss will assist the authorities in any way with an investigation into the accident.”

The store was shut today.

Bicester Village spokesman Miranda Markham said: “Everyone at Bicester Village is deeply saddened by this tragic accident.

"We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and our thoughts and prayers are with them.

"The matter is now under investigation and there is no further comment at this time."

Police spokeswoman Lucy Billen said the force was leading the investigation but working with Oxfordshire County Council.

Miss Billen said: "We are still at the very early stages of this investigation, and no one has been arrested.

"From my understanding the boy was with his family.

"This is a very sensitive investigation and there is limited information that we can give out at this stage.

"Oxfordshire County Council’s Environmental Health department will also be involved in this investigation."

She said she was not expecting the family to be issuing any statement in the next few days.
