A BUDGET hotel at the centre of child sex allegations was open for business again yesterday.

The Nanford Guest House in Iffley Road was closed on Thursday following a police raid.

Owner Jeremiah Cronin was bailed until September following questioning.

A spokesman for the hotel said: “We have nothing to say when so much has already been said.

“We are innocent until proven guilty and have nothing more to add.

“We have a hotel to run and will continue to do that.”

Cronin, 81, and his sons, Bartholomew, 49, and John, 48, were arrested on suspicion of being a landlord letting a premise for use as a brothel, causing or inciting child prostitution for gain, and encouraging or assisting in an offence believing it will be committed, namely rape and child prostitution. All three will answer bail on September 4.

Earlier this year the Old Bailey heard it was one of the hotels used by the Bullfinch gang who raped underage girls.

Seven were convicted and jailed last month at the end of the trial.

Officers behind the investigation into child sex trafficking in Oxford co-ordinated Thursday’s multi-agency raid.

Thames Valley Police swooped on the hotel and another property in Sunningwell Road, Sunningwell.

Immigration officers said they made no arrests and found no evidence of ongoing areas of interest for the Home Office.

Oxford City Council’s environmental health team has closed two of the Nanford’s six buildings until further notice, with another closed by the manager due to an unsafe boiler.

Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Paul Smith said fire safety crews had begun a long investigation into practices at the hotel.

He said: “There were no issues requiring immediate enforcement stemming from yesterday’s activity, however this is only the start of an on-going audit process which will now be conducted over coming days and weeks.”
