SHOULD congratulations be given to the county council highways department for its recent, very intense mowing and strimming of the grass verges and cutting down several rare species of flowering plants on the verges by the Cassington, A40 traffic lights?

The work has been carried out with such gusto and intensity, it’s a shame the same efforts are not involved in the pothole repairs.

Between Yarnton and Cassington, I counted 19 potholes, some of which had been repaired recently but the filling material had started to come out, or the repaired level was below the road surface.

The A40 also has several large potholes between Cassington lights and Wolvercote roundabout.

I reported previously that a pothole was repaired while another less than two feet away was still a hazard.

Do the pothole fillers have instructions from superiors to fill only the holes marked with the familiar white paint marks?

This puts a question to the highways department: what designates that a pothole needs filling while others are ignored?

Surely the priority should be to fill them all.
