THE Bishop of Oxford is joining other bishops to fast for 24 hours on Thursday as part of a campaign to highlight poverty.
The Big IF initiative hopes to highlight the fact that one in eight people around the globe go hungry every day.
It wants world leaders to tackle hunger and save millions of lives.
The Rt Rev John Pritchard said: “It’s outrageous that the world produces enough food for everyone, but not everyone has enough food to eat.
“As a Christian, I want to stand up for those who are suffering and dying as a result of hunger.
“I hope that my small act of going hungry for a single day will help bring the plight of the starving to the attention of our world’s leaders.”
Bishops from around the UK will join in, and the event is being organised by the Enough Food for Everyone IF campaign.
It is a coalition of more than 200 charities, faith groups and other organisations working together to demand changes to the global food system.
