THIS was the scene at the Beehive pub in Blackfriars Road, St Ebbe’s, Oxford, as families celebrated the Coronation.

The picture comes from Valerie Wells, of Long Close, Headington, whose maiden name was Stratton.

She writes: “The landlord and landlady, Mr and Mrs Godfrey, are standing in the middle of the back row.

“I believe our parents had to pay 2s 6d and we were given a china plate, cup and saucer with a picture of the Queen. I still have mine.

“I remember the bunting across the streets of the Friars and watched the Coronation on a nine-inch screen Pye TV in our back room at 99 Blackfriars Road.

“I like Memory Lane every Monday and photographs and letters about the Friars always bring back happy memories.”
