ORGANISATIONS in Oxfordshire are being urged to sign up to a new volunteers’ charter.
Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action wants groups using volunteers to join the Oxfordshire Valuing Volunteers Charter.
The call comes during Volunteers Week, which began on Saturday, which aims to celebrate people who offer their time or skills for free.
Lindsay Watts from OCVA’s Volunteer Centre Oxfordshire said: “Around a third of adults in Oxfordshire volunteers regularly and many more carry out at least one volunteering activity during the course of the year.
“It is important for volunteers to feel supported and valued in their roles and that organisations are given support and resources to effectively manage their volunteers.
“We are asking organisations to sign up to these Charter standards.”
The principles in the charter include that all volunteering is undertaken by choice, volunteers should receive reasonable out of pocket expenses, they should have access to training and they should be able to work in safe and healthy environments.
