As Head of the new Tyndale Community School, I felt compelled to respond to the points raised in your front-page article and your comment piece ‘The devil is in the detail’ (Oxford Mail, May 29) by making it clear the school is moving forward and will be meeting the needs of its children and their families in the locality.

I don’t want there to be any ambiguity about the school opening in September and for that to cause unnecessary concern to parents who are sending their children to the school.

The position with planning permission has been an unnecessary distraction for the school. The EFA has stated that there is no doubt about the completion of the refurbishment programme to make the Lord Nuffield building ready for our first intake of pupils in September, and we expect that in due course, following the planning appeal, it will be confirmed as the permanent site for the school.

We are confident that we have a strong planning case and that the appeal will find in our favour.

According to county council data, and as your piece highlights, there is a pressing need for more pupil places and we are going to be part of the solution to meet that need.

We have an incredibly strong and committed Local Governing Body which includes senior educationalists and community leaders who will ensure a high standard of teaching and learning for the children.

We have also met with favour from members of the local community and of course Oxfordshire County Council. As the principal, I am extremely excited about leading Tyndale Community School as a vibrant learning community. I am looking forward to introducing innovative ways of teaching and learning that will see the children achieve great things – both now and in their long-term futures.

I really welcome the Oxford Mail publicising the school and would love to have people from the Mail come and meet our exceptionally dedicated staff and management team, to explain more about the varied and fulfilling curriculum that will be on offer from September.
