Sir – So councillor Ian Hudspeth and others think that the Conservative vote dwindled because of disillusion with national government, and not because of anything our Oxfordshire councillors did or didn’t do (Report, May 9). How convenient.

May I commend to him the pages of this newspaper? Here each week he will find ample evidence of the many occasions on which plans, schemes, developments and other wheezes have been pushed through by him and his colleagues, against the wishes and, in some cases, against the strongly-supported campaigns of the electorate. Councillor Hudspeth and his colleagues cannot let themselves off the hook so easily.
