TODAY’S announcement that Tyndale Community School will open in September is welcome news – but the devil is in the detail.
Oxford is in dire need of school places, and existing Cowley schools are over-subscribed.
But while this is a bold move, there remain a lot of unanswered questions.
Parents need to have confidence in the future of a school, and while the Tyndale ideas sound well-thought out, there is lack of clarity about what will happen after one year.
If planning issues force the school to up sticks after its first year, all the children who will have just settled in will have to get used to a whole new environment — if indeed one can be found.
Similar properties to the Lord Nuffield Club are few and far between.
And the school’s refusal to say exactly how many youngsters will join in September is also bound to give parents pause for thought.
