AT times we all make mistakes, either personally or on behalf of an organisation.

Sudden decisions are more vulnerable.

For example, a police officer often has to decide instantly whether to make an arrest or not.

Later, with time to review he may or may not be criticised. If he arrests the suspect he may be seen as being oppressive.

If he does not arrest he may found to be lax, with resulting further crimes from the suspect which people will say should have been stopped previously.

So many other officials, including social workers, are also criticised.

Nevertheless, we and others may learn from our mistakes.
