THESE growing gardeners are blooming delighted after they were invited to show off their stuff at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Izzy Potts, eight, Gemma Croker, eight, Gabriel Popham, nine, and Joe Straker, nine, impressed judges with their green fingers.

The Kirtlington Primary School pupils created a 1970s-inspired floral tribute to the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.

To create it, they grew broad beans, spring onions, peas, potatoes and geraniums in a miniature plastic greenhouse.

Gemma said: “It was a great experience, and it is hard to believe we got through.”

Gabriel added: “I enjoyed the responsibility of getting the plants out every morning and watering them.”

The four pupils beat competition from hundreds of schools across the UK to win a place. Gabriel and Gemma will travel to the show on June 22, and represent the school alongside teachers.

Teaching assistant Carole Shepherd said: “They have impressed me with the responsibility they have all taken every morning, checking on the plants.”

Joe said: “I enjoyed planting the vegetables, especially the onions.”
