MANAGERS were drafted in to fill gaps left by striking workers at Oxford’s main post office yesterday, according to union members.

Members of the Communication Workers Union held a strike to protest against pay and the closure and franchising of Post Offices.

The union said 10 managers had been brought in to the Oxford branch and further managers were brought in to the Witney branch.

The Banbury Crown Post Office was closed yesterday due to the strike action.

In February, the Post Office announced its Witney Crown branch was one of 70 that could be franchised to a town centre shop to save money.

Post Office network and sales director Kevin Gilliland said: “We regret any inconvenience that may be caused to customers by this strike action.”

The CWU was unable to say how many of its Oxfordshire members took part in the strike.
