IT IS regrettable that Michael Clarke wishes to close down efforts to question and try to encourage negotiations to reverse the current despicable decline of democracy in standards applied in local planning.

In his letter (Put planning issue to bed, ViewPoints, May 1) he has failed to read my submitted letters accurately.

Mary Clarkson already openly confessed (Oxford Mail, April 18) to committee meetings usually clashing, so by this admission is therefore unable to assist with any councillors’ or residents’ queries together that may arise in this public local forum.

Her confession is contrary to Michael Clarke’s letter (ViewPoints, April 24) stating she regularly attends parish meetings. He has rushed to defend Mary.

However, many residents have found it impossible to contact Mary Clarkson or Roy Darke (city councillors on the East Oxford Planning Committee) when seeking assistance or guidance with regard to serious planning concerns.

I have not intended to undermine the Old Marston parish councillors, because I believe they are hardworking and strive to do their best for the community.

I said (ViewPoints, April 24) that the chairman explained to the councillors that training was available, so I shouldn’t be given credit for making this suggestion. I hope this letter clarifies any confusion.
