THEY were invited to drink the pumps dry. And the hundreds of visitors to the Witney Beer Festival on Saturday gave it their best shot.

Sun shined on crowds in the grounds of St Mary’s Church green for the second annual event, hosted by Witney Round Table.

Oxford University researcher Nick Middleton, 44, said: “They couldn’t have picked a better day or got the organisation much better. My favourite tipple was the Cereal Killer ale.

“They had some stronger ones too which were quite heavy going, but I tried to power through.”

Long Hanborough’s Richard Fuller, 36, who runs an IT firm, added: “There was a great atmosphere, and although it may have seemed bizarre to have it in a church it added to the day.

“We had a lot of fun and I will be back next year.”

Music from Sam Stanley and beatbox player Leftie Wright kept the throng entertained as they flitted between the tents.

The festival put on 30 beers and the first to arrive got a free drink and glass.

Proceeds went to Witney Round Table for future community events.
