YOU know summer is getting close when one of Oxford’s best-loved seasonal attractions opens its doors.

Hinksey Outdoor Pool sprang into life on Friday and offered free swims to those with an Oxford Bus Company ticket the next day.

Among them were members of the Oxford branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club who were on hand to give snorkelling lessons to swimmers.

Club snorkel officer and registration development co-ordinator Debbie White, 45, said: “It was a bit warm in a wetsuit but it was really nice to be outside.

“It was very busy in the afternoon and we had a lot of interest. We must have given about 50 free trials.”

The Hinksey Park pool, in Lake Street, off Abingdon Road, is currently open from 7am to 7pm in the week and 8am to 6pm at weekends, and will be operating until September 29.
