I am pleased to see the Oxford Mail highlight the issue of ‘double-yellow parkers’ who are putting children at risk (April 25).

After many requests and near-misses, double-yellow lines have been painted around Rose Hill Primary School, learning centre and advice centre.

But inconsiderate motorists, taxi drivers and others continue to ignore the markings, flouting the rules of the Highway Code with the excuse that they (motorists) are there for only a short time.

The police, who are stationed at The Oval, appear to turn a blind eye.

PCSOs and street wardens say they do not have the authority to prosecute, which leads us to question why do we bother to spend money on preventive measures if the law cannot be enforced.

Charmaine Swift, who manages the primary school, says that she has written to parents making them aware of the new markings, as nobody was paying attention to them.

I blame the authorities who have the power to enforce the rules.

Why are they reluctant to do so?

A few fines on persistent law-breakers will soon deliver the message that ‘double-yellow line parkers’ will not be tolerated.
