FORMER Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her husband Sir Denis are to be remembered by a plaque in an Oxfordshire church.
Baroness Thatcher’s late husband, who died aged 88 in 2003, left instructions in his £1.3m will that a plaque was to be put up to the couple at St Mary’s Church in Uffington, near Faringdon, after his wife’s death.
St Mary’s vicar, the Rev Rosanna Martin, said: “There are six Thatcher memorials in the south porch.
“When Sir Denis died and his will was published in 2004, it was found he left provision for a similar plaque in memory of himself and Baroness Thatcher to be designed and placed at such time she died.”
The plaque’s design will have to be agreed by the Oxford Diocese’s advisory committee.
The Thatcher family used to run Oxlease Farm, in Uffington. The most recent plaque was in memory of Kathleen Thatcher in 1976.
The Rev Martin added: “The Thatchers hadn’t visited in recent memory.”
