WE, THE undersigned, request Andrew Hamilton, vice chancellor of Oxford University, to reply to the many letters he and the chancellor have received in the past two months.

These letters are from concerned groups, representatives and individuals about the overbearing height of the new Oxford University graduate buildings currently under construction on Roger Dudman Way, which blot out the unique view of Oxford’s ‘Dreaming Spires’ from Port Meadow and can be seen from all across Port Meadow as far as Wolvercote and Binsey.

If they should get up and running, the light pollution from these will further degrade Port Meadow.

We have pointed out that the planning application was misleading and that it was not clear how tall, ugly and intrusive these buildings were going to be. We have respectfully asked that Oxford University acknowledge their mistake and agree to reduce the height of the buildings by at least two storeys, restoring the view of the ‘Dreaming Spires’ and getting the buildings down to a height that can be mitigated by tree-planting.

Andrew Hamilton, we await your reply.
