MANY thanks to ViewPoints and the Oxford Mail for publicising the concerns of the local community regarding the recent proposed alterations to Holy Trinity Church, Headington Quarry.
Also, credit must go to parishioners and the congregation for their tremendous support of the objections to the proposals.
As reported in the Oxford Mail, the Parochial Church Council is now to consider other ideas, many of which have been suggested by the objectors, and are quite feasible. Those which affect or interfere with graves should be ignored, which will cancel out a smaller extension.
The buildings sub-committee, in the next few months, is to investigate work and costs for some ideas for the inside of the church. As the vicar has stated that the body of the nave will remain unchanged and the pews left in situ, it would be well to remember that space and amenities will be available for storage, changing, meetings refreshments, etc, in the new venue, and the interior of the church need not be greatly changed in appearance.
May we hope that, to avoid a repetition of the arguments of the last few months, the public will be kept informed at all stages of the decisions by the PCC ?
Bear in mind that not everyone can get to church regularly and not all parishioners get the parish magazine.
Public notice boards please!
