IT REALLY is a breath of fresh air and great news that there is someone who is prepared to buy Oxford Stadium and keep it as a much-needed multi-purpose leisure facility for our city.
Of course, the faceless and muted venture capitalist owners will still seek to develop houses to maximise their profit with total disregard for the views of the local community, which will add to an already over- populated area.
This, despite the fact that they know that Oxford people and the council want the stadium to remain and continue to be used for a wide range of recreational, sport and entertainment use.
What is so important about this news is that it now seems that we have, at long last, a named entrepreneur, Paschal Taggart, who wants to buy and develop the stadium and use it to its full potential, which will give the chance of us seeing the return of speedway racing to our classic and thrill-making track.
With Swindon about to build a new stadium for speedway and the possibility, still, that Reading will return, this is definitely not the time for our council to let our stadium be demolished. It is an asset that must not be destroyed.
Let Mr Taggart know that we want him to buy the stadium for leisure and recreational use, for the greyhounds, speedway, go-karting and all the activities that are currently being denied a home by the current owners who won’t defend their actions because they just don't care what others think.
