I JUST want to get something off my chest .
Family Tax Credits – because mistakes were made, we were overpaid. Now we have to pay HMRC back.
I read in the METRO free paper on Tuesday, December 11, an article about garlic tax.
When garlic is imported into the UK, HM Revenue and Customs collects the money and pays it to the EU.
Apparently in 2005, HMRC made a mistake and wrongly classified frozen garlic as non-taxable. Now the EU says the UK owes £15m in ‘garlic tax’.
HMRC is resisting because it was a mistake!
If I have understood this article correctly, then I see this as a clear case of double standards.
