COMMUNITY centres are the hub of most communities these days. As a local resident I’m a member of the Northway Social Club, which works hand in hand with the community centre to enlightening and enhancing the local community spirit.

This year many people attended a well-organised day at the sports-field outside the centre for a day of family fun. It was a well-attended event that helped to bring a community spirit to all who attended.

The centre can be used by both old and young. The IT suite is impressive and is a tribute to the hard work of the members of the committee and all involved who have made it such an impressive centre for the community to use.

The social club plays a very important role in the running of the community centre as it helps to bring people in who would never normally enter the building and shows them what the community centre has to offer. The social club also enhances the centre by giving any profits it makes over to the community centre to help with its day-to-day existence.

The city council should be encouraging these combined ventures, which go to help bring communities together.

There is, I think, talk of a new build to replace the existing building due to its state. This would be great for the community and with the help, not hindrance, of local councillors and the city council, would benefit the people they represent.
