PEOPLE in a Headington cul-de-sac are protesting about commuters parking in their road, which has been left out of the residents’ parking zone.
Heath Close, a small cul-de-sac off Warren Crescent, is outside the Girdlestone Road Controlled Parking Zone.
Residents say the knock-on effect is people parking in the road all day, trying to avoid the CPZ restrictions. Heath Close resident Nicola Carron said: “On a daily basis we are having hospital staff and construction workers parking here.
“There are up to four hospital cars a day, taking up our spaces. I don’t know which hospital they are from.
“We are getting desperate as we are being forced to park elsewhere due to these selfish people. They have a staff car park which they should be using.
“Something needs to be done.”
CPZs are run by Oxfordshire County Council, and mean only residents who purchase permits can park in the street outside their house.
To add insult to injury, Heath Close residents keep getting letters from the council telling them to pay for a permit.
Ms Carron said: “No one has been to our street to check whether we have permits or not but we have had letters through the post asking us to buy one.
“We have been throwing our heads against a brick wall.”
There are 25 controlled parking zones across Oxford which are monitored by the county council’s parking wardens, including the controversial Magdalen Road North zone which was introduced last month.
The county council was unable to comment last night.
