MPs and councillors are used to being put under pressure – but not by six-year-old schoolchildren.
Oxford East MP Andrew Smith, above, and Oxford City Council leader Bob Price attended New Hinskey school as part of parliament week for years five and six.
“It was quite exciting,” said 10-year old Idrees Khan. “I asked him how he felt when the Conservatives and Lib Dems won the election. He said he was quite sad but also quite happy, because Oxford got lots of votes.”
Teacher Hazel Totier said it was all part of making the children more politically aware.
Mr Smith said: ‘It’s important that schoolchildren and young people know that the political system is there for them. I find talking with children is wonderful in giving you a fresh insight.”
