I applaud Adrian Reynard for his bid to preserve RAF Bicester, acknowledging its aviation heritage, while also growing amenity and business opportunities for the community.
It is good to see a substantial investment being made in this facility without depending on the use of public funds.
I note that Sir Tony Baldry is supporting rival bidder Bomber Command Heritage. I do not see the reasons why our MP would favour this bid, which I understand needs substantial public funding from Cherwell District Council in comparison with Dr Reynard’s bid, which requires none.
As a retired RAF Tornado and currently Airbus pilot, I understand the unique significance of Bicester aerodrome in The Royal Air Force’s proud history; a point fully appreciated in Adrian Reynard’s plans.
As a council tax and taxpayer, I would be very uncomfortable if any of the rival bids for the airfield was unfairly assisted by the offer of financing from public bodies when a respected independent solution is in the running for this acquisition.
