Police believe the victim of the houseboat fire in Wolvercote is 49-year-old Kevin Pryor.
Mr Pryor lived on the Lady of the Lake boat which was burnt-out in the blaze late on Friday night.
Forensics police expect to be on the scene until later this week.
Police released his name today after speaking to his family. Formal indentification is due to take place later this week.
