Halloween Death Disco anyone?

Dance-pop demon Bright Light Bright Light presents a night of disco pop, indie and electro beats sure to scare spirits back into their graves.

The electro pioneer (real name Rod Thomas) has been tipped by Elton John for killer live shows and been described as the male ‘Robyn’. The best ‘death disco’-inspired outfit wins a signed CD of Feel It, Thomas’s new single.

The band’s debut album Make Me Believe In Hope is among the records of the year, including collabs with Scissor Sisters’ Del Marquis and production from Andy Chatterley (Kylie, Kanye) and Jon Shave (Jessie J, Girls Aloud). Our favourite sexy-synth-bothering indie-punk-rockers Secret Rivals and knob-twiddler ‘The Thought’ (Matt Chapman) provide more than able support.

Ticket includes discounted entry to 02’s Propaganda Halloween club afterwards.

Pop

THE PROCLAIMERS

Leith’s best-known sons, Craig and Charlie Reid, return to Oxford as part of their biggest UK tour. The identical twins, famous for such classics as I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), Sunshine on Leith and Letter from America present the best of their career over nine albums – including last year’s Like Comedy. Emotional introspection and rousing singalongs aplenty.

Boogie-woogie

JOOLS HOLLAND

If you saw Jools in action at Cornbury Festival in the summer you’ll know what a consummate pro this virtuoso pianist is. He brings his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, regular contributor Ruby Turner, trombonist Rico Rodriguez and Louise Marshall, and – excitingly – former Soft Cell star Mark Almond – who could well chip in with songs of his own.

The definitive foot-stomping, star-studded night out.

Folk

IRREGULAR FOLK

The first of what looks like a sporadic dose of alternative acoustic loveliness gets under way this weekend in the depths of The Cellar. Irregular Folk features Miai, The Yarns, Nick Edward Harris Billed as an evening of sci-fi folk pop and acoustic storytelling.

Headliners Maia are a gifted quartet who have supported Anais Mitchell and the Unthanks, and played at No Direction Home, The Royal Festival Hall and Wilderness.
