TUCKER James Shelby 1935 - 2023 Died after a short illness. The funeral service will take place at St Margaret's Church, Binsey on Saturday 18th March at 11am. The family request no flowers but donations, if required, to the Dogs Trust.

I travelled through Sudan and Egypt with Shelby and Carole in 1976. Both were fountains of information. Great travel mates. Fantastic days, better memories.

I feel privileged to have met and spent time with Shelby on a tour of New Zealand and to have assisted with some of the geographical and language editing of the draft of his last book.
Good food, great NZ wine, tales of his dog Nipper and mine, vigorous debate of course, and a mutual appreciation of our beautiful MtCook.
I shall miss our friendship by distance

My staunch friend of nearly fifty years. An incorrigibly adventurous, improbable, sometimes impossible and also a wonderful andc courageous person it wasmy privilege to laugh with, tease, argue with and once or twice spit bullets at. People like Shelby don't so much die as go off and get into trouble somewere else. Bon voyage Shelbydarling.
