Two weeks ago, myself and three friends found ourselves heading off to London in order to sample what the Myhotel group claims is the "ultimate girls' night in", writes Sara Smith, Oxford Brookes student and Oxfordmail.net blogger.

Our evening was to include massages, chocolate, Champagne and, most interestingly of all, pole dancing.

I wasn't sure how many girls' nights in I'd spent pole dancing before but, hey, I've always been open to new things.

Our girlie adventure started off very well, as our hotel, located in Chelsea, was easy to get to. The train from Oxford to Paddington took less than an hour and, as the hotel was so central, it took only 10 minutes to get there in a taxi (and four women sharing one London cab makes it endearingly cheap as well).

Anyway, upon arriving, I have to say we were very impressed. Standing outside the main entrance we were met by the smell of lilies which, we were to find out later, was because the hotel bases itself around the five senses.

The idea being that everything should be pleasant to your taste, smell, touch, sight and hearing. Very girly...

And our rooms felt as though they had really been tailored to suit the needs of a female clientele.

Adorned in beautiful soft furnishings, the décor was made up of pretty pinks and lavenders and an array of delicate finishing touches.

On top of this we had a good selection of complimentary bathroom goodies and a rather swanky flatscreen TV. So far, so good.

We were promptly informed that our first event for the evening would be the massage section of the package.

This was to be done one at a time and so, while we waited our turn, the rest of us took ourselves off to the bar. And yeah, we liked it.

With three differing areas, we had a choice of atmosphere to lounge around in.

We could prop ourselves up at the bar Sex and the City-style, sit down at the coffee tables or relax on the plush, comfy sofas.

We chose the sofas, nodded WAG-like several times in the direction of the bar, and as if by magic, our waiter then proceeded to bring us some very tasty cocktails. My personal favourite being the Razzmataz'.

By the time it was my turn for a massage I was beginning to feel a little tipsy, but definitely in the mood for some pampering.

However, if I thought I was already relaxed, I had no idea of what was to come as my masseuse was quite simply amazing.

I've had a few massages in my time but this was exceptional.

My qualified Jinga therapist worked my back and neck until I quite literally felt like a new woman and I could still smell the divine scent of the oils three days later.

All my friends said the same and the four women who an hour later were heading down for a pole dancing class were not the same women who had entered the hotel earlier that day.

The ultimate girls' night in was certainly having a positive effect on us.

The pole dancing class was held in a downstairs conference room of the hotel; perfect, as it was both large and airy.

To start us off, our instructor, Leah, put us through a brief warm-up to ensure we didn't pull any muscles and then set about teaching us the 'ways of the pole'.

Having already sunk a few drinks and so feeling rather cocky, we threw ourselves into the class and pretty soon we were swinging round like pros.

Contrary to popular belief, Leah explained, pole dancing is not just about gyrating sexily around a pole. It involves a lot of other skills and is incredibly good for fitness levels.

Indeed, when she told us it also burns a whopping 300 calories an hour, I was sold; this was much more fun than the gym!

And, in fact, pole dancing wasn't all Leah had up her sleeve as she soon began teaching us how to give lap dances as well.

It was all we could do to keep from laughing till we cried as we drunkenly gave each other rather wobbly lap dances.

Having said that, when our class was finally at an end, we all agreed this was definitely our new favourite pastime (Oxford bars beware).

By this point, we were all feeling rather exhausted and so after a quick dinner in the hotel restaurant, which offered a fabulous deal of two courses plus a drink for £9.95, we headed up to our rooms.

Here we found the last activity' waiting us was a chilled bottle of Moutard Prestige Rosé NV and, best of all, a chocolate fountain with stacks of marshmallows to gorge on.

On top of this, we had the entire DVD collection of Sex and the City.

Nestling back into our ridiculously luxurious beds, we settled down to finish our evening with Champagne in one hand, chocolate in the other.

What more could we girls ask for?

All in all, our night was a rousing success and left us all feeling rather sad to be leaving the next day.

Still, on the bright side, we were allowed a late check out of 2pm so managed to sleep off the worst of our hangovers before taking advantage of the hotel's rather good breakfast.

Heading back to the train station, it was agreed that a wonderful night had been had and it was definitely the best way of ensuring some fun, quality time with the girls.

Our only advice; take some Alka-Seltzer for the next day!
