The Zutons' Dave McCabe has appeared in court and denied breaking a man's nose during a row outside a nightclub.
The singer, 29, wrote the song Valerie which later became a worldwide hit when it was covered by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse.
He was accused at Liverpool Crown Court of headbutting Peter Appleby in an incident outside the Korova nightclub in Liverpool city centre last February.
McCabe, of Vale Road, Liverpool, pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was granted unconditional bail until his trial on September 20.
