Christian Bale will play Italian entrepreneur and racing driver Enzo Ferrari in director Michael Mann’s eagerly awaited movie, reports Deadline.
The project will reunite the 41-year-old Batman actor with the man who directed him in Public Enemies, an acclaimed 2009 feature.
Michael Mann has spent years trying to get a biopic about Ferrari made, at one time partnering with the late Hollywood great, Sydney Pollack.
The new film will be set mainly in 1957 and is based on a book called Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, The Machine.
Ferrari’s life sounds perfect for Hollywood: he fought in World War I, fathered a child out of wedlock and had numerous affairs.
The search will begin for actresses to star alongside Academy Award winner Bale, soon to be seen in Knight of Cups, alongside fellow Oscar recipients Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman.
The Ferrari biopic will start shooting next year.
