HBO has shared a teaser trailer for Westworld, a new sci-fi thriller series centred on a Western-themed futuristic theme park.
The drama is loosely based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name.
The show stars Hannibal star Sir Anthony Hopkins, Superman Returns’ James Marsden and True Blood’s Evan Rachel Wood.
In the 30-second clip, Evan’s character Dolores Abernathy is shown tied up and bruised as flies crawl over her face. A disembodied male voice asks her where she is and she replies: “In a dream.
“Wanna wake up from this dream?” the voice continues, to which she replies: “Yes. I’m terrified.”
The voice then urges her to give the correct answer to the question: “Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?”
The teaser trailer also features shots of a piano playing itself, a living skeleton-like creature, and a man lying dead on the ground.
The network described Westworld as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin”.
Jonathan Nolan will serve as executive producer along with Lisa Joy, JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk.
Westworld will air on HBO in 2016.
