* LADIES, form an orderly queue. Gentlemen too, if you like... because Peter is coming to town. Yes, reality TV star, model, heart throb, celebrity single dad and singer Peter Andre, pictured, brings his latest tour to Oxford on Tuesday, with a show at the New Theatre.

The gig is in support of his new album Angels & Demons, which he tells us is his “landmark album”.

Tickets cost from £29.50 to a whopping £76 from atgtickets.com/ oxford or by calling 0844 8713020.

* FOR music of an altogether more cerebral kind, don’t miss tomorrow’s show by Rufus Wainwright.

The Canadian-born singer-songwriter returns to the New Theatre following an incredible couple of years, which saw him marry his long-term partner, have a baby with the daughter of Leonard Cohen and release his danciest album to date – the marvellous Out of the Game. Tickets are £26-£46 from atgtickets.com/oxford

* HAVE-a-go-artists have reason to celebrate tonight, with the anniversary of Oxford’s longest running free open mic night.

Sparky’s Flying Circus, which takes place at the Half Moon, in St Clement’s, has been running for 11 years. The night, organised by performance poet Sparky himself, features music, poetry and performance art at 9pm every Thursday. A second night takes place at the James Street Tavern every Tuesday at the same time.

And if that wasn’t enough, don’t forget to check out Leon Field’s open mic session at Far From the Madding Crowd, at 8.30pm on Mondays, and the Catweazle Club, at the East Oxford Community Centre, Princes Street, at 8pm tonight and every Thursday.

* Gravenhurst are a folk band but not like we know it. Their music is dark and brooding, combining elements of shoegaze and psychedelia as well as lighter ballads and the finger-picking guitar virtuosity of Bert Jansch and Nick Drake.

Multi-instrumentalist Nick Talbot’s Bristol band play Irregular Folk, a beautiful night of alternative folk music at The Cellar, Frewin Court. They are joined by Chilean folk singer Soledad Vélez, and local artist Seabuckthorn.

Handmade tickets, created by organiser Vez Hoper (who also decorates the club) are a bargain at £5 in advance from wegottickets.co.uk or £6 on the door.

The night runs from 8-10.30pm.
