SOMETIMES you can be genuinely surprised that such a voice emerges from such a small wee thing.
And so it was when singer-songwriter Gin Wigmore took the stage before a sold-out crowd at the Hammersmith Apollo on Friday night.
Yes, we knew she had a distinct and gravely voice but there was a real strength to it as she belted out those first notes.
Wigmore, hugely successful in her native New Zealand, was supporting Train at the Apollo and provided a belting opening for them.
With her own band she played an energetic 40-minute set tinged with a bit of rockabilly, culminating in a storming rendition of her biggest hit Oh My.
Wigmore is now in Europe but will be playing one more London gig at the Borderline on March 11.
