Acoustic wonder is underlined by passion, power and heartfelt emotion in this offering by a singer-songwriter who is destined for bigger things.
This album of dreamy ambient folk is given atmosphere and gravity by producer Paul Savage (Mogwai, Arab Strap) - saving it from Snow Patrol/ Radiohead -style pastiche.
What shines through here is Ritchie’s voice - which has the clarity and strength of neat gin.
The album was born out of an experiment where the artist would compose a new song every week for six months, whittling down the results to his 11 best. A concept album, it deals with ideas of British identity and of decline and isolation. But don’t let that put you off; this is a beauty.
