Fans of The Beatles will be in their element with a return of the original and best tribute band to the Fab Four.

The Bootleg Beatles come to the New Theatre Oxford, on April 14, and this time they’ll be indulging themselves in the eclectic delights of the White Album – marking the LP’s 50th anniversary.

No ordinary imitators, The Bootleg Beatles started off the whole trend of tribute bands and are still among the best of any band – touring with string and brass sections.

As ever, the band will perform favourites from the whole Beatles’ catalogue while focusing on some key tracks from the White Album – playing many of them for the very first time.

As well as some of the best-known classics, the band will also be taking on more obscure tracks in an attempt to bring to life the breadth and depth of the creative, if divisive, LP.

A counterpoint to Sgt. Pepper, it drew from a broad span of influences, but was created with a sparser sonic palette that saw song arrangements significantly stripped back.

The album, released 22 November 1968, also saw the band to a larger degree working independently of each other in their own creative niches.

OMD MARK 40 YEARS

In another blast from the past, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD), continue their 40th anniversary celebrations with the announcement of a special world tour which calls in at the New Theatre on November 11.

The celebrations have already seen the reissue of their first four classic albums on 180g vinyl, mastered at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road and housed in their original iconic die cut sleeves designed by the legendary Peter Saville.

The band is still led by friends Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, who founded the act on Merseyside in 1978.
